Connecticut Gay and Lesbian Film Festival Coming to Cinestudio
Tue, 1/05/12 – 19:54 | No Comment

The following relates to the Connecticut Gay and Lesbian Film FEstival, which will be coming to Cinestudio early this summer..

A vivid rainbow of genres, topics, voices and viewpoints will be shared in the 25th season of the Connecticut Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, taking place June 1-9 at Cinestudio on the Trinity College campus.

While the schedule of films will be announced soon, the selection committee is pleased by the variety and number of high-quality feature films to be presented. Unlike many festivals organized by hired curators, this festival is programmed by a group of 15 or so devoted volunteers, who have spent over 150 hours viewing 200 short and feature-length submissions since August 2011 until early April of this year.

Organized by the non-profit Out Film CT, the Connecticut Gay and Lesbian Film Festival is the longest-running cinema festival in the state. It has helped Hartford to become a regional movie-lover’s destination while it has galvanized and knit together LGBT individuals and organizations since 1988.

Recognizing the riches of its holdings, in 2003 Out Film CT donated its archive of the Gay and Lesbian Film Festival to Central Connecticut State University’s Elihu Burritt Library (which has deep collections of Connecticut gay and lesbian history), and continues to contribute materials each year.

To celebrate the 25th Film Festival, the Burritt Library has organized an exhibit of posters, programs, advertisements, and more, displaying the Festival’s history and growth, which will be on view May 7 – June 10. (Some items from the collection may be seen on the web at http://content.library.ccsu.edu/.)

An exhibition reception open to the public will be held at the Burritt Library on Wednesday, May 16, at 6:00 p.m.

For more information about the exhibit, call the Burritt Library Special Collections department at 860-832-2085 or 860-832-2086. For library hours, visit http://library.ccsu.edu/calendar/month.php.
